Apple has introduced a new Apple Pencil. In terms of functions, it is positioned between the first and second generation and has a USB-C connection.
Apple presented several small innovations for the iPad and iPadOS during a presentation. The company’s tablets are considered extremely popular. The iPad, for example, is the front-runner in terms of market share in this area. In addition to new functions in iPadOS, the US company is also focusing on a new Apple Pencil.
This is called the “Apple Pencil (USB-C)” and is positioned in the midfield between the first and second generation pens. The design is very similar to the magnetic Apple Pencil of the second generation and only differs at the rear end of the device.
Apple Pencil supports connection and charging with USB-C
Because compared to the most expensive variant, the Pencil (USB-C) only supports charging and connecting via USB cable. To do this, a Type-C port at the end of the Pencil can be uncovered and a cable connected. All iPads with a USB Type-C port are supported (such as the iPad, the iPad Air or the latest generation iPad Pro).
The range of functions also differs marginally from the first and second generation models. The new Apple Pencil does not react to the pressure applied, so the iPad does not display lines thicker in such a case. In addition, it is not possible to change app tools by double-tapping the tip.
Deliveries possible from November
On the other hand, magnetic attachment of the Pencil to the side of the iPad is supported. If the Pencil detects the connection, it goes into sleep mode to extend the battery life.
According to the official announcement, the new Apple Pencil (USB-C) will be available from November 2023 and will cost 95 euros. However, custom engravings are not possible. A second-generation pen is required for this.
