iOS 16.5 is now available for free download. Apple is bringing out the new operating system just a few weeks after releasing a quick update. These are the new functions at a glance.
It was only at the beginning of May 2023 that Apple brought out a supplementary security update for the iPhone. After six weeks of beta testing and two release candidates, the latest version of the operating system is now available: iOS 16.5.
iOS 16.5: Apple releases new iPhone update
In addition to a new option for the lock screen, the latest software update mainly contains improvements and bug fixes. Compared to the previous updates, however, the latest version contains only a few new functions.
The earlier beta versions of iOS 16.5 contained, for example, a new Siri command to start and stop a screen recording. However, this function is not included in the version that has now been released.
iPhone update: These are the new functions
The new iPhone update introduces several innovations. For example, iOS 16.5 includes a new “Pride Fest” background for the lock screen. With this, Apple wants to honour the LGBTQ+ community and its culture. The new wallpaper is available to match the new “Pride Celebration” Watchface and a Pride Sport band for the Apple Watch.
It will also fix an issue where Spotlight may become unresponsive and where podcast content cannot be loaded in CarPlay. A bug where “screen time” settings can be reset or not synced on all devices should also no longer occur in the future.
A new feature is also available in the Apple News app: the new “Sports” registration card is now available there to make it easier to follow matches and provide easier access to reports, results and tables. However, this function is not yet available in Germany.
Apple is also releasing more information on around 40 security updates for all aspects of the system.
Install iOS 16.5
iOS 16.5 is now available for download. You can install the new system update on all models from the iPhone SE onwards. To do so, go to the device settings under “General” and “Software update”. Then click on “Download and install” and enter your device code.
The latest version is probably the last iOS 16 update before Apple releases iOS 17, probably in June 2023. There should then be many new functions, especially for people with disabilities.
