Apple has released iOS 17.2, a long-awaited iPhone update. The new version delivers numerous functions that should already be included in iOS 17. An overview.
Apple recently released iOS 17.1.2, a new update for the iPhone. However, this was purely a security update that did not include any new functions. However, iOS 17.2 is a different story.
Apple releases iOS 17.2
This is because the new update delivered numerous functions that should already be included in iOS 17. These include a completely new iPhone app. iOS 17.2 also fixes some serious security vulnerabilities. Among them: A bug in the “Where is” function that exposed sensitive location data.
In turn, a bug in Safari’s private mode made it possible to gain access without authentication. According to Apple, the new update is also intended to fix kernel errors and a security problem in Siri that allowed hackers to access private data via voice commands.
What’s in the new iPhone update
The new Journal app in iOS 17.2 allows users to keep an encrypted diary. The application makes entries about places visited, workouts completed and photos taken. The iPhone update also includes stereoscopic video recordings for the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.
However, these can only be viewed with the Apple Vision Pro headset, which is due to be released in March 2024. iOS 17.2 is also intended to improve the autofocus speed for taking photos of distant subjects with the telephoto lens. Meanwhile, the two iPhone 15 Pro models will receive translation support, which can be triggered via the action button on the outside.
iOS 17.2 also provides new functions for the Messages and Weather apps. In future, users will be able to jump to the first unread message in a conversation, view extended weather data and verify contacts, for example.
Further improvements in iOS 17.2:
- A new digital clock widget
- Improved Siri support for the documentation of health data
- Additional Airdrop options to share content
- Better autofill function to fill out PDF documents
- Support for eight Sami languages
- Compatibility with Qi2 chargers for older iPhones
