WhatsApp has introduced two new features for more privacy. The feature “Mute calls from unknown” promises more control over incoming calls. A “privacy check” is intended to help you select suitable security settings. We show you how to start the check.
WhatsApp says it attaches great importance to the privacy of its users. The end-to-end encryption of the messenger is supposed to help ensure that calls and messages are secure. Only recently, the company introduced a chat lock with which you can protect sensitive chats with a password.
New WhatsApp function: data protection check
In addition, a correction function has recently been added that allows you to edit WhatsApp messages afterwards. The “privacy check” is the next new function with which WhatsApp wants to offer its users more privacy.
The company explained: “With this, we want everyone to know about the security options that WhatsApp offers.” The privacy check is intended to guide you step by step through all the important privacy settings and help you select the appropriate settings.
WhatsApp: How can I start the privacy check?
When you select “Start Check” in your privacy settings, you will be navigated through several privacy precautions that increase the security of your messages, calls and personal data.
To start the check, first open the settings in WhatsApp at the bottom right. Then click on Privacy. The function “Privacy check” should appear there in the first place. Click on “Start check” so that WhatsApp guides you through the process.
WhatsApp says it is pursuing the goal of using new strategies to convey the message of why privacy and data protection are important. The company writes:
From now on, we want to encourage people to share private messages and let friends and family know that they have a safe place to communicate.
