Especially on holiday, the abundance of incoming messages on your smartphone can get on your nerves. We show you how to send groups and individual chats to holiday mode with the “Leave chats in archive” function on WhatsApp.
There are groups on WhatsApp from which you would like to simply leave. Unfortunately, this is usually not so easy for various reasons.
It can be particularly annoying when your mobile phone is constantly ringing while you’re on holiday because another long discussion has broken out in one of these groups. But WhatsApp offers a remedy here – with the holiday mode.
WhatsApp: How does the holiday mode work?
The setting for the WhatsApp holiday mode is officially called “Leave chats in archive” in the app. Setting up this option took the Meta subsidiary several years of development time.
To switch to holiday mode on WhatsApp and, for example, banish the work group from your field of vision, you can simply move it to your archive.
This works very simply. On iOS, you have to move the corresponding chat in your overview to the left. The Archive function opens directly here. On Android, you have to hold the chat in question for a long time.
With the “Leave chats in archive” function, the groups no longer pop up in your regular chats when there are new messages there.
To leave your chats in the archive
You can find the settings for the WhatsApp holiday mode in different ways. The first way to leave your archived chats in the archive in future is via the settings.
To do this, click on Settings in WhatsApp and then navigate to the Chats item. Here you will find the item “Leave chats in archive” and can activate it.
You can also access this setting in your chat overview. Your archive is pinned above your active chats. If you click on “Archived” here, you will first land on your archived chats.
At the top of the archive you can see which setting you have just activated. For example, it says: “These chats remain in the archive when new messages are received.
If you click on this message, you will return to your settings. Here you can view or change your settings as described above.
Holiday mode on WhatsApp
In addition to the archive method, you can of course also mute individual groups or chats for a certain time. WhatsApp offers three different time windows for muting:
- 8 hours
- 1 week
- Always
However, if you don’t only want to mute certain chats on WhatsApp, there is of course another option. The app also allows you to completely switch off notifications in the smartphone settings.
